This update introduces a range of upgrades designed to give advisors and clients deeper insight into how distributions play out across a lifetime and after death. Whether supporting strategic planning design or confirming alignment with a client’s intentions, Luminary’s Beneficiary Report helps advisors deliver clarity at every stage.

Quantify Beneficiary Outcomes with Confidence

Built on Luminary’s industry-leading estate waterfall engine, Beneficiary Reporting connects entity and asset-level planning with beneficiary-level impact. Advisors can easily illustrate projected outcomes across a client’s full estate, automatically segmented by beneficiary and event type.

We’ve designed the Beneficiary Reporting experience around real questions like, “Will my spouse be financially secure after I’m gone?”,“Is my charitable giving plan making a meaningful impact?”, and “Will my children benefit equally?” so advisors can bring real clarity to the conversations that matter most.

Using data from the beneficiary intake and disposition forms, the estate waterfall now powers:

  • A consolidated summary of all beneficiaries and their expected distributions
  • A clear breakdown of access during life vs. distributions at death, organized by what can be accessed in trust vs. is distributed outright
  • An individual view that shows what each person or organization receives, when, and from which entities

Plus, since the report is tied dynamically to the estate waterfall, any changes or updates to underlying data updates the Beneficiary Report automatically. No need to go back and manually redo numbers or double check accuracy across multiple locations. Simply adjust key estate assumptions—like death years or growth rates—and instantly see how the resulting changes affect beneficiary outcomes.

Built to Support Strategic Conversations

This reporting is connected directly with Luminary’s presentation builder, allowing advisors to generate polished, branded, client-ready materials in minutes. We’ve created two powerful, out-of-the-box views to support your planning.

Beneficiary Overview Page

The Beneficiary Overview brings together key outcomes into a single visualization. This high-level report provides:

  • A top-down view of legacy impact across family and philanthropic goals
  • A complete breakdown of projected access and distributions for each beneficiary, including family members and charitable organizations
  • The ability to simulate various longevity and asset return scenarios and their corresponding impact

Individual Beneficiary View

For more granular planning and review, advisors can access detailed beneficiary-level data including:

  • Current and future access based on trust terms (e.g. HEMS, trustee discretion, etc.)
  • Access granted or distributions received based on age attainment milestones or death events
  • Entity-level detail illustrating how and when value is received
  • The per-individual impact of hypothetical transfers or trust funding

These views can easily be customized and added to your existing client presentations with just a few clicks—helping you create powerful visual deliverables that make planning discussions more intuitive and impactful.

Powered by Luminary AI

Every Beneficiary Report begins with client documents—wills, trust agreements, disposition instructions—and ends with structured, dynamic insights.

Luminary’s AI-powered tools intake, read, and extract key data needed to populate both the beneficiary intake form and the estate waterfall. This enables faster onboarding by eliminating manual data entry, ensures consistency, and scales insights across your book of business.

FAQs

When is it best to use the beneficiary report view?

  • Common questions the Beneficiary report can help answer are: "How much will my surviving spouse receive or have access to after first death,"What will remain for family or charity after both death events," "Who are all the beneficiaries in my estate plan?"

How do I share the beneficiary view with my clients?

  • Both the overview and individual beneficiary views can be exported into PDF format from the Client presentation builder.

Can I use the beneficiary view to show how market conditions impact the outcomes for each of my kids?

  • Yes, the assumptions entered in the estate waterfall (e.g. death year, growth rates), will directly impact the results in the Beneficiary view.

How do I include past gifts made to beneficiaries?

  • For each beneficiary, you can enter the amount of past distributions that have been made to them. This will upward adjust the total sum of cumulative distributions represented in the graph.

How do you quantify entities that a beneficiary may have discretionary access to?

  • If a beneficiary has discretionary access to a trust such as HEMS or access under trustee discretion, users can specify if they would like this represented as the full amount of the trust, zero, or proportional to the number of beneficiaries.
